The Marin Sorescu National Theater in Craiova announces the opening of the 2024-2025 season with the premiere of the show The Lesson<\/a><\/em>, by <\/strong>Eug\u00e8ne Ionesco, <\/strong><\/em>Saturday, September 7, at 19:00, at Sala Amza Pellea. The translation of the piece is signed by Vlad Russo and Vlad Zografi<\/em>. The direction of the show is created by Bobi Pricop and the scenography is created by Oana Micu. The actors Sorin Leoveanu, Raluca P\u0103un and Iulia Laz\u0103r are part of the cast. The music and stage movement is signed by Eduard Gabia.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"The Lesson<\/em> is, of course, a school play about totalitarianism, indoctrination, abuse, about a kind of dictatorial and hypnotizing power of meaningless language. But in this show we were interested in discovering to what extent it is, more than anything, about childhood memories, transgenerational trauma, dysfunctional families and the toxic relationships within them. That is why we wanted to question the extent to which the \"lesson\" is a type of trauma learned at home, through inherited mechanisms, repeated from generation to generation. We found it very valuable to read the text from the perspective of a family that wants to teach an eternal child (already an adult) an absurd, cruel and useless lesson, every day, endlessly, with the hope that this time the lesson will \"get them right\" . We discover in the Ionesian play a kind of violence that is subtly mixed with affection, and that makes it much, much harder to rebel, to oppose, to defend yourself.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"An explosion of color, the stage in pink, and no, it's not Barbie<\/em>, it's Eug\u00e8ne Ionesco's Lesson. <\/strong>The set designed by Oana Micu incites spectators, has a special place in the staging thought by Bobi Pricop. It is Pop-Art and a lot of plasticity, two-dimensional pieces of furniture, cardboard decoration, an exposed theatricality, a transition from anti-theatre to meta-theatre, the door that opens the show bears the inscription \"Homeschooling\", Ionesco. (\u2026) A show without a plot, but a show in which the dramatic tension is integrated into an action plan that catches the audience in a constant growth, until the paroxysm, but always a postponed paroxysm, always postponed like in Ravel's bolero. (\u2026) This show is a magical box, like a chest decorated not with \"sileni\" (companions of Dionysus meant to provoke healing laughter), but with pink and cardboard monsters, but also a lesson in (non)meaning or , rather, an excess of meaning, \"a gift of meaning\", of theater and always current themes, and when laughter and violence go hand in hand, the laughter stops.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n
