Scheduled to take place between April 23 and May 3, 2020, the 12th edition of the Shakespeare International Festival has been canceled in its classic form due to the Covid-19 pandemic and rescheduled. for the year 2021.
Teatrul Național din Craiova created the online edition of this festival, on the Facebook page https: // www.facebook.com/shakespearefestivalcraiova , where a series of shows and social media interventions will celebrate the work of William Shakespeare, in the period dedicated from the beginning of this event, respectively April 23 - May 3, 2020.
In parallel, in collaboration with the TVR and TVR 3 Production House, until April 26, 12 episodes of the series dedicated to the shows based on the work of the great playwright William Shakespeare in Romania will be broadcast on TVR3. The episodes, lasting about 10 minutes each, are structured around the most famous and most played Shakespearean songs in Romania and bring to the public unique images with the directors of these great shows as well as archive images, some even document, of the shows played over time on the stages of our theaters.
Starting with an archive over 25 years old, the Shakespeare Festival will recreate the steps that brought the event to the international notoriety gained so far. From the video archive you will be able to watch performances by the great directors Silviu Purcărete , Vlad Mugur , Tompa Gabor , and famous theaters from all over the world and names important world stars such as Robert Wilson , Declan Donnellan , Berliner Ensemble , Cheek by Jowl , Yuri Butusov will join the initiative of the “Marin Sorescu” National Theater in Craiova, which celebrates, on this occasion, the close connection with the director Silviu Purcărete, broadcasting 5 of the shows he staged in Craiova.
"We have tried to understand how we can be together even in these difficult conditions. Fortunately, technology allows us to create virtual spaces to share with others. The home edition is a promise that this festival will go on no matter how many obstacles it encounters.
Perhaps the most sensitive nuance of this special edition that we have called "Shakespeare's Universal - home edition" is the sonnets at home. We start with Sonnets recited by Emil Boroghină and end with the famous Shakespeare's Sonnets by Robert Wilson, and the red thread is worn by artists from over 20 countries who open their homes and souls to bring us, each in his own language, Shakespeare the Universal into our home and soul. See you in theaters again, let's go to Shakespeare's house! The artists and the public will create together a festival edition that we will remember for a long time ", said Vlad Drăgulescu, artistic director of the Craiova National Theater and of the International Shakespeare Festival.
