Almost 120 years later, we look back on this moment with an uncomfortable sense of familiarity. The world in Rebreanu's novel, brought to the stage of Reactor almost as an act of self-defiance, is colorful, cruel and fascinating – a magnificent mummified ancestor, who holds the key to our identity; who can tell us where we come from and, if we are not careful, where we can end up.
