Exhibition King Carol I. Founder of Modern Romania at the National Craiove

A new cultural event intended for students from the city of Craiova and the region of Oltenia takes place in the premises of the "Marin Sorescu" National Theatre: the exhibition King Carol I. Founder of Modern Romania.

Between May and December 2023, in the foyer of the Amza Pellea Hall of the Craiova National, the public can admire a collection of objects that belonged to King Charles I, such as crockery, coins, medals, small items of furniture or decorations, weapons, books and publications. Made at the end of the 19th century, the objects cast in bronze, silver or made of steel, leather, wood or other materials are made available, for the first time in the Oltenia region, by thePeleș National Museum in Sinaia.

The event is part of the cultural-educational project EDUCĂM ÎMPREUNĂ launched by the "Marin Sorescu" National Theater in Craiova in November 2022. Since its debut his, the project attracted the public of all ages, on the occasion of holding exhibitions, performances and drawing, painting and theatrical play workshops dedicated to students from Dolj county and children from social assistance centers.

The project started at the "Marin Sorescu" National Theater in Craiova with the exhibition Maria of Romania. Queen and artist, exhibition that could be visited between November and April 2023. The collection, made available by the Peleș Sinaia National Museum, included personal items of Queen Maria and informative materials regarding the life and activity of Her Majesty. The HISTORIC Auction House from Bucharest participated in this event with a series of objects that belonged to Queen Maria, such as the baptism certificate, letters, photo albums, postcards.

On the occasion of the launch of the project EDUCĂM ÎMPREUNĂ, the "Marin Sorescu" National Theater presented the premiere of the show THE CHOICE, directed by Alexandru Boureanu and Raluca Păun. The show is based on the one-act play written in 1960, in exile, in Versoix, by their Majesties, King Mihai I and Queen Ana.

The play is loaded with meanings and raises issues of a philosophical nature, in a world caught in the struggle between two opposing ideologies. At the same time, the inner struggle of the man caught between his weaknesses and his virtues is distinguished. Good in opposition to Evil. Darkness with Light. And the choice, our salvation, can only be Love.

The show's creative team also includes Lia Dogaru (scenography), A.G. Weinberger (musical composition and live music) and Florin Constantinescu (video design), the actors Claudiu Mihail, Marian Politic, Gabriel Marciu, Raluca Păun, the child Vladimir Politic, with the participation of the renowned musician A.G. Weinberger.

The show ALEGEREA enjoyed the admiration of the public in Sinaia on the occasion of Romania's National Day. The performance on November 30, 2022 was followed, at the request of the public, by the one on December 1, 2022, the Moorish Hall of the Peleș Castle proving to be insufficient for those interested.

The month of February 2023 marked the presentation of the show THE CHOICE at the National Museum of Transylvanian History in Cluj-Napoca as well as the meeting of the public of the Craiove National with the exhibition Romeo and Juliet from Cluj , a collection of images and informative panels that relate an unprecedented archaeological discovery. In 2013, the archaeologists of the National Museum of the History of Transylvania in Cluj-Napoca brought to light a grave, in which those found there were still holding hands. The event attracted the attention of specialists and the media, being also reported by the prestigious British publication The Daily Mail, and the exhibition was named after characters whose love inspired writers and artists: Romeo and Juliet.
