The patriarch of Craiova painters, Viorel Penișoară-Stegaru, will be celebrated at the "Marin Sorescu" National Theater, on Friday, December 20, from 5:00 PM by collaborators and friends who were close to him during a 55-year career in the Craiova institution.
Along with Emil Boroghină, TNC directors Alexandru Boureanu and Vlad Drăgulescu will pay tribute to him at an event to be held at Sala Atelier. Theater critics Ion Parhon and Mariana Ciolan will also participate in the celebration of a professional who entered the Craiova theater in 1960 and who created the set design for over 130 shows.

Viorel Penișoară Stegaru was born in Duda-Epureni, Vaslui County, on July 5, 1934. He studied drawing and graphic arts in Iași and Bucharest with Dobrian, Luca and Molnar.

He studies easel painting with Cămăruț, Saru and Catul–Bogdan.
He graduated in 1960 from the "Nicolae Grigorescu" Academy of Arts in Bucharest, scenography department, class of Toni Gheorghiu, Al. Brătășanu, Traian Nițescu. Travels for studies, documentation and cultural contacts: Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Serbia, Bulgaria, France, Israel, England.
Since 1960, painter-scenographer of the National Theater in Craiova. From the same year, he exhibited at all official, county and interregional salons, at the official national painting and graphics salons in Bucharest: 1966, 1967, 1971, 1978, 1987. He debuted at the Craiova National Theatre in 1960, alongside director Georgeta Tomescu, with whom he collaborated in many performances: Ecou înferată by Sava Golovanovski, ...escu by Tudor Mușatescu, Fiicele by Sidonia Drăgușanu, A twelfth night by W. Shakespeare, Neamurile by Teofil Bușecan, Mirele furat by Ștefan Haralamb, Nunta lui Figaro by Beaumarchais, Hagi Tudose, by V. Delavrancea, The Trojan Women by Euripides, Aesop by Guilherme Figueiredo, The Gold of the Beautiful Courtesan by M. Drzici. He had a long-term collaboration with director Mircea Cornișteanu: Cousin Shakespeare by Marin Sorescu, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by Edward Albee, Vacation in Guadeloupe by Pierre Sauvil and Eric Assous, The Suitors by D. R. Popescu, directed by Mircea Cornișteanu, The House with Guns by Dumitru Dinulescu, Alice Doesn't Know How to Die by Gheorghe Truță, directed by Mircea Cornișteanu, Olympus on Crutches by Dragan Stankovici, directed by Mircea Cornișteanu, Looking for a Tenor by Ken Ludwig, Puiu's Wedding by Puși Dinulescu, The Light in the Attic by Carmen Firan, directed by Mircea Cornișteanu etc.
He created the poster for the show Arca Bunei Speranțe, a show by Aureliu Manea based on the play of the same name by Ion D. Sîrbu, in 1989, a premonitory image of the Victory sign made by those who took to the streets during the bloody days of the Romanian revolution.
He exhibits set, costume, model, and stage design projects at the national scenography salons: 1961, 1967, 1972, 1976, 1979, 1982, 1987.
