The snake outfit

Synopsis

<<"The snake outfit" is a "poetic-graphic" performance based on Marius Aldea's verses, verses that take the pulse of our times, of the ways in which individuals seek their usefulness in a world constrained by the pressures characteristic of each age. The show presents a chronology of the life of a man able to remember the way he thought as a child, a (un)assumption of his condition as an (i)responsible adult, a perpetual search for the non-existent balance. All these anxieties are exposed to the viewer in a plastic, dynamic, self-mocking manner, in which the actors' bodies render what words can only communicate up to a point.

Chronicles:

"Let's call it by its name: sleep has the great merit of taking you away from the world." I think that would be the show's motto. Despite the fatalistic tone, a great love of life will be discovered through the body's submission to its organic rhythm and impulses. This body cannot connect directly to other bodies, but it can reconnect to itself through its tenuous past, through its agonizing present, through its inevitable future. „Tehnicile de construcţie ale poemului se combină/ suprapun şi influenţează construcţia spectacolului: rularea notelor semnificative, construcţia în prim planuri, selecţia materialului dincolo de o banalitate aparentă include gesturile cele mai comune reinvestite cu substanţă, cu corp. Nefericirile corpului şi ale sufletului comunicate prin mişcare şi poezie. (…) Valoarea performativă a limbajului poetic tradusă în mişcări ample sau geometric gândite, asocieri de cuvinte, gesturi şi poziţii, elogiul somnului „care te duce de pe lume” se unesc într-un spectacol rotund despre constrângerile realului şi necesitatea adaptării la realitate, inventarea unui spaţiu indeterminat, a unui dans salvator.”

“What impresses in Andrea Gavriliu's performance is the way she manages to give the impression of organicity to the combination of text and movement. It is not trivial, because there is no criterion by which you can decree that a certain movement suits an idea better than another. Here, the bet is all the riskier as the gestures are jerky and the movement is broken down, in counterpoint to the fluidity of the speech. A true team performance (not a troupe) in which none of the actors tries to “take the face” of the others. So I will name them all, in alphabetical order: Alex Calangiu, Ștefan Cepoi, George Albert Costea, Cătălin-Mihai Miculeasa, Claudiu Mihail, Vlad Udrescu, with the mention that they are just part of the excellent troupe of the Craiova National. The synchronization of the movements, the “smoothing” of the voices to eliminate dissonances without flattening each one's personality are remarkable.”
