The renowned director and festival director,Tudor Giurgiu, is the December guest of „SpectActor Meetups” 2022. Born in 1972 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Member of the European Film Academy, Tudor Giurgiu is the founder and president of the Romanian Film Promotion Association and its main event, the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF), the most prestigious film event in Romania, considered by Indiewire as one of the "50 most important film festivals in the world". Tudor Giurgiu was one of the 24 world leaders who participated in the prestigious Eisenhower Fellowships program in 2014. Initiator of the GOPO Awards, annual awards for the best achievements in local film and member of the jury at several international film festivals (Ludwigsburg, Crossing Europe Linz, Reykjavik, Prague, Angers, Amazonas), member of the international jury of the Emmy Awards 2012 He worked as first assistant for directors such as Lucian Pintilie and Radu Mihăileanu. Tudor Giurgiu was also General Director of the Romanian National Television (TVR) in the period 2005-2007.
His directorial debut with the film Love Sick was selected in the Panorama section of the Berlinale 2006 and was awarded in several international festivals). His short film, Superman, Spiderman or Batman (2011), won several awards at festivals around the world (Aspen, Valladolid, etc.), but was also declared the best European short film at the 2012 edition of the European Film Academy Awards. The second feature, OfSnails and Men, was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Warsaw IFF , Best film of the "Punto di Encuentro" section of the Valladolid IFF. "Why me?", an unsettling legal thriller based on a real case of corruption in Romania today, premiered in 2015 at the Berlinale Panorama and was awarded at Sofia, Miskolc and Tarkovsky IFF.
His most recent film is Parking, a Romanian-Spanish-Czech co-production. Tudor Giurgiu is now in post-production with Freedom, a feature film inspired by real events that took place in Sibiu in December 1989, as well as Nasty, a documentary about the career of the iconic tennis player Ilie Năstase. Tudor Giurgiu has produced or co-produced over 40 feature films, such as Servants by Ivan Ostrochovsky (Berlinale 2020), Katalin Varga by Peter Strickland (Silver Bear in Berlinale 2009 and European Discovery of the Year at the EFA Awards), Mission of the Human Resources Manager by Eran Riklis (Locarno Audience Award 2010), Cendres et Sang by Fanny Ardant (Cannes 2009), Cannibal by Manuel Cuenca (Toronto and San Sebastian, 2013), History of Love by Radu Mihăileanu (2016).
